Welcome! 

Welcome to Vykrutas Ukrainian Dance Society.  We look forward to another year of dance, watching our students learn, 
grow and come together as a group, building on their success. 

This year we are offering multiple levels of group dance classes (Sundays and Thursdays), festivals/competitions, performance opportunities in the community, weekend workshops, and the opportunity for small group dances (duets, trios, etc.).

Workshops 

We are planning to offer occasional workshops to give dancers a chance to learn extra technique/choreography from guest instructors.

OUR INSTRUCTORS


Vasyl Kanevets:

Artistic Director/ Ballet Master/ Dance Instructor

Vasyl comes to us from Kyiv, Ukraine, and is a distinguished teacher of Ukrainian Dance, Classical Ballet, Character Dance, and Classical Dance History.

Vasyl received his Professional Dancer Diploma at the National Ballet School of Kyiv. He also completed his Honours level Ballet Master’s Degree in Kyiv. In 1995, Vasyl moved to Canada where he continues to work as a professional dance instructor and choreographer. Vasyl is also the Co-Artistic Director of the Vaganova Dance Society in Edmonton.

We are proud to announce that Mr Kanevets received the Ukrainian Dance Instructor of the Year Award for 2017 from Ukrainian Dance World magazine.




Anna Kanevets:

Artistic Director/ Ballet Master/ Dance Tech Instructor

Anna Kanevets comes from Kyiv, Ukraine, and has dedicated herself to the art of dance her entire life. She began her education in 1972 at the ballet school of Berdyansk. In 1985 Anna graduated with Honours from the Kyiv State Institute of Culture, Faculty of Choreography receiving her Ballet Masters degree. Anna spent eleven years in the position of dance educator and administrator of the Faculty of Choreography, Kyiv College of Culture and was the Artistic Director of the Molodoshchy Performance Ensemble which traveled throughout Ukraine and Russia.

In 1996, Anna moved to Canada to begin a new phase of her career as Ukrainian Dance Instructor with the Yatran Dance Academy of Edmonton. IN 1997, Anna became a founding member of the Koperoush school of Ukrainian Dance in Sherwood Park. Her choreography and work with students of different ages resulted in many gold medals and honour awards from dance competitions and festivals across the Prairies. From 2002, Anna has enjoyed a close relationship with the Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble which culminated her role as lead choreographer of The Legend of the Rusalka in 2006 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mrs. Kanevets was also a Repetitor with the Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble of Edmonton.

From 2006 to 2016, Mrs. Kanevetz was the Artistic Director of Tryzub School of Ukrainian Dance, where she developed the Tryzub School of Ukrainian Dance Syllabus with the goal of strengthening the talents of the students and educating them about their Ukrainian heritage.

Currently, Anna is Dance Director for Viter Ukrainian Dance and Folk Choir.
